If you’re in trouble and need to notify your emergency contacts, press your power button 5 times (within 2 seconds)!
All you have to do is set a/some emergency contact/s and your phone will send them an Emergency Text Message (SMS) with a preset message. If your phone can find your approximate location, it will be included as part of the Emergency SMS.
If your location cannot be found, the Emergency SMS will be sent without your location and the phone will continuously search for your location. When it does find your location, another SMS will be sent with your location details.
Note – To activate sending Emergency SMS, press the power button quickly 5 times within 2 seconds. Alternatively, you can open up the application and click on the button that says “Send Emergency SMS”

Other Features

On opening the application, users can customize their Emergency SMS. This feature assists in case users are not in a hurry or have no access to the internet, as they can quickly type in the location. The SMS is built by simple check boxes enabling the user to add customized texts (like “Don’t call back, not safe; Pick me up, will wait here; I’m very low on battery”).

There is an option to turn off all your connectivity services, dim your screen and kill all running applications in case you’re critically low on battery and need to conserve your charge.
There is also another option that enables you to put your phone in a state of complete silence.
All Android mobile users can use this app when they are in tough situations and think their loved ones must be informed about the situation and location immediately.

Privacy

Notion Ink takes the privacy of its users very seriously, and given the intended use of the application, it is important that information like the location of a person be accessible only to whom the users wish to send it to. There is NO back up taken on the location or phone numbers, or number of times the application was used to send SMSes. The application is self sustaining and does not require or utilize a server on the backend to run.

MakeMyTrip Launches SMS-based Bus Booking Service For Entry level Phone Users

makemytripOnline travel portal MakeMyTrip has launched SMS-based bus-ticket booking service for entry-level phone users. The company’s latest offering enables entry-level mobile phone users to book bus tickets for over 1,300 operators over 12,000 routes across India including the inventory for Punjab Roadways, Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation, Goa and Bihar Road Transport Corporation and Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation.

To avail the service, customers need to SMS details like destinations of travel, number of passengers and date of travel on a designated number. Then MakeMyTrip will respond with choices of different operators on that day and route. Users will be required to select the operator of choice and make payments using the IMPS (immediate payment service) transaction route.

IRCTC To Launch SMS Based Ticketing From July 1

irctcIRCTC has announced that it will be launching an SMS – based ticketing from July 1 and a dedicated number will be announced soon for this. Describing the step as environment-friendly as no print-out is required, a senior IRCTC official said ,”mobile- based booking provides the users ease and convenience of booking tickets from anywhere and anytime. There will be no requirement of a printout because the ticketing message will be considered as valid during the journey.”

To avail this service, a user has to register the mobile number with IRCTC as well as one’s bank. The Bank provides MMID (Mobile Money Identifier) and OTP (one time password) for authorization of payment.

For SMS booking a passenger has to type the train number, destination, journey date, class and passenger details like name, age and gender on the SMS box. After this, the sender will receive a transaction ID. The user can then make payment through sending another SMS by typing PAY followed by the transaction ID, MMID as received from the bank and password. On completion of these steps, the passenger’s ticket is booked. The service is available to all mobile subscribers and Rs 3 is being charged per SMS and payment gateway charges are Rs 5 for ticket amount upto Rs 5000 and Rs 10 for more than Rs 5000.

Over 950 mn Mobile Ticketing Users By 2018 – Juniper Research

juniperAccording to a new report- Mobile Ticketing Strategies: Air, Rail, Metro, Sports & Entertainment 2013-2018, by Juniper Research, over 950mn mobile phone users worldwide are expected to use their handsets for mobile ticketing by 2018, up from 458mn this year. Growth is expected to be driven primarily within key transport verticals, although latterly significant uptake is anticipated across sectors such as live entertainment events and cinema ticketing.

The report found that the airline industry was a particularly strong proponent of mobile ticketing, with adoption of mobile boarding passes rising sharply since the worldwide implementation of BCBPs (Barcoded Boarding Passes) in 2010.

The report revealed that while mobile has for some years been a key ticketing delivery channel across Scandinavian metros, deployments were increasing both elsewhere in Europe and in the US and were achieving strong levels of adoption. At Boston’s MBTA, which introduced mobile ticketing in late-2012, mobile accounted for 10% of ticket sales within seven weeks of launch.

The report also noted that in the short term, the outlook for NFC ticketing was less optimistic, with a lack of implementation standards a key barrier to interoperability.  Furthermore, transaction speed targets have yet to be achieved, providing a further obstacle to widespread deployments and increasing the probability that contactless cards, rather than NFC handsets, will be the primary delivery mechanism.

Commenting on the insghts, report author Dr Windsor Holden said, “We had already scaled back our forecasts for NFC Ticketing deployments in the wake of Apple’s decision not to include an NFC chipset in the iPhone 5. Given the outstanding technical issues and the continuing failure of NFC stakeholders to communicate the value proposition to transport operators, further downward revisions were required; we do not envisage anything other than ad hoc deployments in the immediate future.”

OnMobile To Acquire Boston Based Livewire Mobile

onmobileValue-added services company OnMobile Global Limited will acquire the business assets and liabilities of Livewire Mobile, a leading provider of end-to-end managed mobile entertainment solutions for network operators and consumer device manufacturers. The resultant new U.S.-based entity will be called OnMobile Live Inc, a 100% subsidiary of OnMobile LLC, US.

Boston-headquartered Livewire Mobile, established in 1983, provides an integrated suite of solutions including full track music, ringback tones, ringtones and infotainment services. Livewire Mobile currently powers ringback tone and mobile music solutions for Sprint, MetroPCS, and Public Mobile amongst others.

OnMobile LLC, US will pay $17.8 Million as the consideration for purchase of LiveWire’s business assets and certain liabilities, subject to certain contingent payments. The purchase will also include purchase of stock of Fonestarz Media Limited, UK – the managed services arm of Livewire based in UK.

OnMobile is already one of the largest B2B digital music service provider providing path-breaking music services for top Telecom operators in Asia, Latin America, Africa and Europe. With the acquisition of Livewire Mobile, OnMobile will now expand its music and ringback tone services to leading operators in North America.
