iOS 10 – All New Features Coming to your iPhone

iOS 10

iOS 10 arrives with a bang at WWDC 2016! The new operating system for proprietary Apple products offers some pressing elements for that are supposed to make all other iOS versions look bleak. Well, while it is being called as the most advanced and feature-rich iOS release until now, you have reasons to become enthusiastic about it. Let us have a look at the offerings made by this latest iOS release.

How big is it?

Apple is calling it to be their biggest release so far. But apart from the fine-tuned, bolder and bigger design elements what are there to call it so big or grand? Well, we are feeling still a sceptic. Actually, in this sprint, Apple concentrated primarily on addressing glitches, fine tuning earlier features and making few design elements bolder and beautiful. Is this enough to call these iOS release grandest of all? Well, we are not sure yet. But obviously Apple after several years made some significant changes, at least design-wise. More beautiful maps, enhanced photos for reliving memories, power of Siri unleashed for a number of apps and many other elements became better and bigger with iOS 10.

The evolution of Home App

iOS 10 has offered a new ‘Raise to wake’ feature that will be able to wake up the lock screen as and when it is lifted up and thus the user will be able to see all the notifications and updates. The notifications also look better and with the 3D Touch capability responding and interacting with them will be a lot easier now.

The evolution of Home App and lock screen is one of the most discussed things in the new Apple launch. Actually, the home app symbolizes a new approach for the burgeoning and increasingly demanding phenomenon of Internet of Things.

Siri is more powerful

Siri has become more power packed with the new iOS 10. iOS Developers can do a lot of things with Siri. More third-party apps will now have access to Siri. You can give Siri commands to make another app act or react the way you want. Already an array of messaging apps has been included among the list of supported apps for Siri.  From messaging apps like WeChat, and WhatsApp to VoIP calling apps like Uber, Runtastic, Runkeeper, MapMyRun, and Skype have been listed for Siri support. A number of apps will certainly join soon. With Siri taking control of most of your apps the user experience is certainly going to have a big push.

Apple Maps getting better

Apple Maps in the new OS has become a lot better in terms of design and usability. Now the map app is more proactive than ever. The map will offer more predictions and suggestions according to the user context and search. The Map app UI is cleaner and easy to interact now. The new Maps is more proactive with a lot of predictive stuff. When searching through the Maps you will be offered the nearby restaurant suggestions. On top of that, the app will offer real-time traffic information. In case there is a lot of traffic in a route, Maps will guide you to the alternative route and show you the time that can be saved approximately. Actually, the new Maps has been given a lot of features and look and feel attributes of Apple CarPlay. The best part is, Maps is available for other apps also. Other apps also can make use of the extensions of the apps. For example, you can book and pay a restaurant, a cab ride or keep track of your ride just within the Map app only.

Music app got revamped

Finally, Apple has taken some proactive steps to fulfill longstanding demands of users in revamping the music app altogether. There is a ‘download’ section within the app with a special design that will offer more sense of space on the screen. Apart from that, the new music app for iOS 10 will have a new ‘For You’ section to create curated playlists of choice. There is also a new lyric feature to get a look at the song lyrics at the time of listening music.

Messaging fun with tappable Emojis

The message is one of the most popular apps on iOS. The new message feature will allow users playing videos right in the middle of a message. Most important of all, emojis are back with a whole new look, feel, and contextual usage. From now on, words that can be replaced with emojis will be highlighted and with just a tap you can put in the message.

Apple TV remote app

Apple in the new iOS 10 also introduced a new remote app for the Apple TV. According to Apple, lot of Apple customers had a long-standing demand for a dedicated app to control and operate Apple TV remotely just as it is done through Siri. This app in the new iOS is a step forward to making the OS more friendly and proactive towards IoT. The app can be used for touch input, voice-control through Siri and offers controls through a motion for playing games on Apple TV. Besides all these, the user can make use of the regular keyboard for entering text.

Apart from all these, the most important feature of the new Apple TV app is that the downloaded app gets automatically available across iOS devices. That means when you download a game in iPhone it becomes available in your TV as well. This is how the gap between tvOS and iOS is bridged through this new app.

Top 10 iPad Pro Features that Make it the best Tablet Ever!

iPad Pro

Apple’s new tablet – the 12.9-inch iPad Pro is the biggest avatar of the revered iPad although the sale numbers have diminished year on year. Apple is expecting the new iPad Pro to actually push the tablet segment in the PC world with the introducing of some amazing features that many mobile workers and professionals will find useful.

Here are the top 10 iPad Pro Features that push the envelope in more ways than one:

#1. Biggest Screen Ever!

iPad Pro has an overly large display with 12.9″ screen. But while using it, one can assure anyone that it is highly recommended over the previous 9.7″ iPad and might in turn replace the Macbook in due course of time too.

#2. Amazing Resolution

Boasting of the most advanced display of all Apple products, iPad Pro packs a punch with its 12.9-inch Retina display that features a mind-boggling 2,732 x 2,048 pixels in display resolution and a modest 265 ppi pixel density. The Retina Macbooks might have more pixel density though.

#3. Multitasking Features

iPad Pro supports multitasking features similar to all other Apple devices that are run on iOS 9. But with the incredible screen, users have an advantage with the new Split View, and the beautiful Picture in Picture option. Also the Slide Over option gives users some room to work on with the space being optimized for productivity and multiple tasks to be done at a time.

#4. Apple Pencil

Apple Pencil

Apple’s new iPad stylus, Apple Pencil, is tremendously feature-rich and the best among all styluses. It is great for writing notes and even useful for sketching and drawing. The Notes app, Procreate, and other apps support the fantastic pressure- and orientation-sensitive stylus as it has perfected the analogies of handwriting and use of other tools. Although it is not battery-rich, it is good enough.

The Pencil is packed with sensors that can sense on the pressure being exerted and how hard one pushes it. It even detects the angle in which users press the tip to the screen which is aimed for the artists and the creatives. Pressing the Pencil hard will result in much deeper, darker lines on the iPad Pro while gentler presses will create lighter strokes. It is charged an extra $99, on the top of the pricey entry-level iPad Pro.

#5. The Right Stand/Case

Holding the 12.9″ tablet might be a hassle especially for extended periods of time. With Just Mobile’s Encore, working with the iPad Pro is a breeze. Urban Armor Gear’s Composite Case is one of the best stands/ cases to carry the iPad Pro and Apple Pencil together. The tablet experience gets much better with the pairing. One can even get a Logitech Create Keyboard especially if you are concerned with long-form typing on the device.

#6. Getting Updated Apps

With multiple updated iPad Pro apps ready, users will be in for a ride since the experience with several tailored apps with the resolution support, and other features is hugely welcome. Some apps provide support to certain functionalities like the split-screen functionality too. Various third party apps along with updates are available for the iPad Pro including the Reeder 3 and Tweetbot 4. One can expect Facebook and YouTube updates soon with the required tweaks.

#7. Bigger But Lighter

It is the biggest iPad to date, but it is incredibly lighter and thinner than even the first iPad in 2010. The display takes up 78 percent of the real estate and that is much more than what it was on the 9.7-inch iPad. But being just 6.9 mm thick as the newest iPhones, it is a lightweight, portable mobile tablet that is set to rule.

#8. Smart Keyboard Option

iPad Pro also includes a Smart Keyboard that is a foldable keyboard that can be connected to the iPad Pro via the Smart Connector, a new technology that is proposed by Apple. The keyboard is similar to Surface line keyboards but this does not include a Bluetooth connection. It is available for $169 extra other than the iPad Pro.

#9. Excellent Sound Quality

Most electronics makers are not keen on making outstanding speakers and hence most gadgets do not pay heed to sound. Apple is diligent in its design and hence it does not overlook the audio quality in any way. Apple has fitted four front-facing speakers in the iPad Pro for magnificent sound results. The speakers can balance the sound from both directional speakers especially when the orientation of the tablet shifts from landscape to portrait mode and vice versa.

#10. Powerful Inbuilt Hardware

The iPad Pro is not only big on its exterior but also in its interior. It includes Apple’s newest chip, the 64-bit A9X, which is powerful in delivering performance reminiscent of a desktop and capable of providing double power than the A8X chip which was supported by iPad Air 2. With 4 GB of RAM, and 32 GB / 128 GB storage, iPad Pro will not be able to push the PCs out of the competition but the future still holds promise.

Apple Continues To Lead The Tablet Market With 55% Unit Shipment Share In Q3 2012

According to a recent report by ABI Research, Apple’s share of the tablet market continued to best all others with 55% unit shipment share in Q3 2012. However, inspite of maintaining its lead for 10 straight quarters, competition from tablets powered by Google’s Android OS continue to eat away at Apple’s success. Since the launch of iPad in 2010, fifty-five percent is the lowest share Apple has ever had.

Senior practice director Jeff Orr said,“With the introduction of a smaller, lower-cost iPad mini, Apple has acknowledged Android’s beachhead of 7-inch-class tablets, though at the same time, it has failed to deliver a knock-out punch through innovation, pricing, and availability during the most critical selling period of the year.”

As per the report, following Apple in shipment share this past quarter were Samsung, Amazon, and ASUS. ABI Research expects that iPad mini has caused demand for standard iPad models to shift down-market. Limited availability of iPad mini could be the saving grace as end-of-year buying ramps.

The report also revealed that nearly 14% share was given up in the quarter to several benefactors, including Amazon, Google, and Samsung. Android now powers more than 44% of tablet shipments. Orr said, “As the OS of choice for the majority of device OEMs, we expect the Android ecosystem to continue growing in numbers – new manufacturers, better device choices for reaching more markets, and more developers finding value from apps and content.”
