Surging Tablet Sales To Drive Mobile Gaming Industry In India

mobile-gamingAccording to a recent research report by RNCOS, “Booming Mobile Gaming Market in India”, the Indian Mobile gaming industry is witnessing a tremendous growth and it is expected to become the largest segment of the gaming industry in the coming years. Further, surging tablet sales is adding fuel to the ever growing market of the mobile gaming industry. Its wider screen compared to mobile phones and other advance features makes it more attractive platform for mobile game players. In 2010-11, the tablet market grew phenomenally by experiencing a growth of 750% compared to the previous year. Owing to the above factors, it is anticipated that tablet sales will follow the same growth trend in the coming years as well.

The report shows that introduction of smartphones, 3G services, and massive mobile subscriber’s base are some key factors driving the growth of mobile gaming in India. Launch of technically upgraded games such as 3D games is another factor driving the growth of the industry. According to RNCOS 3D games are expected to lead the growth of the mobile gaming industry in the coming years. Apart from the opportunity areas, other key factors like growing share of gaming applications in MVAS market and low cost of production contributes towards the development of the concerned industry. Under stable conditions, in future also, the mobile gaming industry is projected to grow at a CAGR of around 43% during 2012-2015.

The report is based on research conducted in Tier 1 and Tier 2 cities among a sample size of 1000 respondents. The respondents were of four different age groups – 6-12 years, 13-21 years, 22-35 years and above 35 years.

According to a new Market Research Report titled “Booming Mobile Gaming Market in India”, by RNCOS, India is fast emerging as one of the top gaming destinations with rising number of gamers, especially online and mobile. With 919.2 Million mobile subscribers (2011-12), India represents one of the world’s largest, fastest growing, and highly untapped mobile gaming markets. A high percentage of young population, steadily rising disposable incomes, and a proliferation of game developers are a few major factors that are driving this industry. Mobile gamers are also increasing day-by-day with the world-class mobile game offerings by domestic and foreign players.

The report further found that in the coming years, mobile gaming is expected to become the largest segment in gaming industry. In the recent years, the mobile gaming industry has seen a trememndous growth with the introduction of smartphones, 3G services, massive mobile subscriber’s base, and technically upgraded games. Under stable conditions, in future also, the mobile gaming industry is anticipated to grow at a CAGR of around 43% during 2012-2015. The report covers a detailed analysis of mobile gaming industry including consumer and service end-market along with future forecast.

According to the report, 3D-mobile games are expected to create a boom in the market, as various game developers are focusing on 3D games developments and some of them have already launched 3D games in the market.

In order to understand the Indian mobile gamers, RNCOS conducted a primary research to study the gamers’ behavior towards the market. Primary research was conducted in Tier-1 and Tier-2 cities among a sample size of 1,000 respondents. For the survey study, four age groups ranging from 6-12 yrs, 13-21 yrs, 22-35 yrs, and above 35 yrs were considered. It also considered people from different professional background in order to depict a clear picture of the mobile gamers. Further, the report took into consideration other parameters like price range of preferred mobile games, time spent per day, preferred playing location, type of mobile games preferred etc.

Orange partners with Gameloft to launch new mobile games services in Africa and ME

Orange and Gameloft have signed a global partnership to promote usage of mobile games in Africa and Middle East. These game offers have already been successfully launched in Jordan, Ivory Coast, Mauritius, Madagascar under the Orange brand and in Egypt under the Mobinil brand.

The new mobile games offer from Orange and Gameloft will make use of Gameloft’s most popular titles such as Asphalt 6 : Adrenaline; Assassin’s Creed : Revelations; Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows 2; The Avengers; and more.Through this partnership, Orange and Gameloft will make more than 300 games available through a dedicated section of the Orange mobile portal.

Since January 2012 a selection of three Gameloft mobile games have been pre-installed on low-priced smartphones. Due to their easy access on the home screen of the device, these games were available through the “Try and Buy” mode which allows users to test the game before buying it in a few clicks.

Orange is represented in 22 countries in Africa and Middle East. Smartphones & Tablets transforming Mobile Gaming Industry

The increase in smartphone and tablet computer usage is transforming the mobile gaming industry. The new market includes not only die-hard gamers but more casual players, the kind who tap the touchscreens of their iPhones or Android devices even while on the move.

Earlier the gaming industry was dominated by hand held console games. Even companies like Sony and Nintendo are affected with the rise of gaming in smartphones and tablets. Sony and Nintendo are expected to ship more than 38 million handheld gaming devices in 2013, a number significantly lower than the previous peak of 47 million units in 2008.

However, according to some analysts both the gaming segments – gaming on smartphones, tablet computers and console games will continue to grow as the audience for both segments is different. Console gaming will remain a niche market.

A recent report by ABI said that smartphone and tablet use for gaming continues to expand, providing increased competition in the handheld market. Another reason fuelling the growth of mobile gaming is the fact that the mobile games are either free, financed by advertising or cost just a few dollars. On the other hand, classic developers invest millions of dollars in major franchises and sell games for around $60 apiece.

Eiji Araki, head of the social games studio GREE said,”The game should be designed for mobile. The mobile player is different from the console game player. They are always online and they can play games all the time… so the game should be designed for three-minute sessions, for minimum times.”
