PayMate India Surpasses $500M in Annual Processing Run Rate

PVR Enters Into A Five-Year Partnership With BookMyShow

bookmyshowPVR Cinemas has entered into a five-year deal with online booking portal Bookmyshow.com. Under this partnership, BookMyShow will be able to market and sell tickets of PVR Cinemas across its web and mobile applications for the next five years. BookMyShow already has tie-ups for more than 1,400 screens.

Through this partnership, PVR hopes to generate Rs 1,000 crore in ticketing sales over the next five years. Currently, 20 per cent of PVR’s ticket sales happens through its own website. With this tie-up, the multiplex chain aims to increase this to 24-25 per cent annually. This is the first time PVR has opened its ticketing to third party vendors.

Speaking on this, Pramod Arora, PVR Group president and CEO,  said, “The intention here is to capture the audience that was not present on the PVR digital platform. Through this deal, we intend to add a chunk of new customers who are present on Bookmyshow but not on PVR’s website.” Bookmyshow will also share its customer relation management analytics data with PVR.

Currently BookMyShow has more than 12 million e-commerce customers, translating into about 30 million tickets annually .

Bookmycab.com Introduces Taxi Booking Via SMS

IAMAI and Facebook Partner To Launch Internet Safety Education Programs for Students

iamai logoIAMAI and Facebook have partnered to launch Internet Safety Education programs for Students between the age group of 13 – 17. The campaign, which is focused on building community awareness on this developmental issue, will also train Educators, and Child safety NGOs about Internet safety practices.

As a part of the first phase, the program will be rolled out across Delhi, Mumbai and Hyderabad to cover 18000 students across approximately 30 schools and institutions immediately, and conclude with a national conference in Delhi addressing online child safety issues later this year. The program will be extended to other Indian cities through 2014.

Google Introduces New Maps App For Android Smartphones and Tablets

google mapsGoogle has introduced a new Google Maps app for Android smartphones and tablets, also coming soon to iPhone and iPad. The app will also be rolled out globally in Google Play and will be available soon in the App Store. Announcing this, the company stated,”The new Google Maps for mobile builds on the design we released for iPhone last December and improves on it with a few useful search and navigation features. And it’s the first dedicated app for Android tablets and iPads. We’re also retiring Latitude and are making some changes to offline and My Maps.”

Some key features of the new Google Maps App:

  • Explore: Explore is a fast and easy way to visually browse and discover new places without even typing. You just have to tap the search box to see cards showing great places to eat, drink, sleep and shop.

Latitude and check-ins are no longer part of the new Google Maps app, and will be retired from older versions on August 9. Instead Google has created a new way for you to access maps offline by simply entering “OK Maps” into the search box when viewing the area you want for later. Flipkart.com Raises $200 million From Existing Investors

flipkartBangalore based Flipkart.com has received a funding of $200 million (Rs 1,200 crore) from four of its existing investors – Hedge fund Tiger Global Management LLC, venture-capital firm Accel Partners, South Africa-based media company Naspers and U.S. investment adviser Iconiq Capital LLC.

The deal values Flipkart at $1.5 billion, or over Rs 9,000 crore, according to a person with direct knowledge of the deal. “There was a lot of scepticism about Flipkart and e-commerce in India. This funding refutes that,” said Sachin Bansal, chief executive of Flipkart who co-founded the company with Binny Bansal in 2007.

The company plans to utilize the funds to improve its technology capabilities, logistics chain and staff strength as it shifts to a marketplace business model, where retailers use the online platform to sell brands to customers directly. The marketplace model will be cheaper compared with Flipkart’s current business model of first buying the products it sells through its website.

The Bansals, first met as undergraduates at IIT-Delhi and worked together at Amazon’s India office before they launched Flipkart.
