iOS 10

iOS 10 arrives with a bang at WWDC 2016! The new operating system for proprietary Apple products offers some pressing elements for that are supposed to make all other iOS versions look bleak. Well, while it is being called as the most advanced and feature-rich iOS release until now, you have reasons to become enthusiastic about it. Let us have a look at the offerings made by this latest iOS release.

How big is it?

Apple is calling it to be their biggest release so far. But apart from the fine-tuned, bolder and bigger design elements what are there to call it so big or grand? Well, we are feeling still a sceptic. Actually, in this sprint, Apple concentrated primarily on addressing glitches, fine tuning earlier features and making few design elements bolder and beautiful. Is this enough to call these iOS release grandest of all? Well, we are not sure yet. But obviously Apple after several years made some significant changes, at least design-wise. More beautiful maps, enhanced photos for reliving memories, power of Siri unleashed for a number of apps and many other elements became better and bigger with iOS 10.

The evolution of Home App

iOS 10 has offered a new ‘Raise to wake’ feature that will be able to wake up the lock screen as and when it is lifted up and thus the user will be able to see all the notifications and updates. The notifications also look better and with the 3D Touch capability responding and interacting with them will be a lot easier now.

The evolution of Home App and lock screen is one of the most discussed things in the new Apple launch. Actually, the home app symbolizes a new approach for the burgeoning and increasingly demanding phenomenon of Internet of Things.

Siri is more powerful

Siri has become more power packed with the new iOS 10. iOS Developers can do a lot of things with Siri. More third-party apps will now have access to Siri. You can give Siri commands to make another app act or react the way you want. Already an array of messaging apps has been included among the list of supported apps for Siri.  From messaging apps like WeChat, and WhatsApp to VoIP calling apps like Uber, Runtastic, Runkeeper, MapMyRun, and Skype have been listed for Siri support. A number of apps will certainly join soon. With Siri taking control of most of your apps the user experience is certainly going to have a big push.

Apple Maps getting better

Apple Maps in the new OS has become a lot better in terms of design and usability. Now the map app is more proactive than ever. The map will offer more predictions and suggestions according to the user context and search. The Map app UI is cleaner and easy to interact now. The new Maps is more proactive with a lot of predictive stuff. When searching through the Maps you will be offered the nearby restaurant suggestions. On top of that, the app will offer real-time traffic information. In case there is a lot of traffic in a route, Maps will guide you to the alternative route and show you the time that can be saved approximately. Actually, the new Maps has been given a lot of features and look and feel attributes of Apple CarPlay. The best part is, Maps is available for other apps also. Other apps also can make use of the extensions of the apps. For example, you can book and pay a restaurant, a cab ride or keep track of your ride just within the Map app only.

Music app got revamped

Finally, Apple has taken some proactive steps to fulfill longstanding demands of users in revamping the music app altogether. There is a ‘download’ section within the app with a special design that will offer more sense of space on the screen. Apart from that, the new music app for iOS 10 will have a new ‘For You’ section to create curated playlists of choice. There is also a new lyric feature to get a look at the song lyrics at the time of listening music.

Messaging fun with tappable Emojis

The message is one of the most popular apps on iOS. The new message feature will allow users playing videos right in the middle of a message. Most important of all, emojis are back with a whole new look, feel, and contextual usage. From now on, words that can be replaced with emojis will be highlighted and with just a tap you can put in the message.

Apple TV remote app

Apple in the new iOS 10 also introduced a new remote app for the Apple TV. According to Apple, lot of Apple customers had a long-standing demand for a dedicated app to control and operate Apple TV remotely just as it is done through Siri. This app in the new iOS is a step forward to making the OS more friendly and proactive towards IoT. The app can be used for touch input, voice-control through Siri and offers controls through a motion for playing games on Apple TV. Besides all these, the user can make use of the regular keyboard for entering text.

Apart from all these, the most important feature of the new Apple TV app is that the downloaded app gets automatically available across iOS devices. That means when you download a game in iPhone it becomes available in your TV as well. This is how the gap between tvOS and iOS is bridged through this new app.
