According to a recent research by NPD DisplaySearch, the percentage of users viewing TV/content on tablets and other smart devices has more than doubled in the last year. Out of the 14 regional markets surveyed, Turkey is the fastest growing region with tablet usage growing from 3.1% in 2011 to 16.5% in 2012.
The study which was based on 14,000 TV owners worldwide, shows that more than 70% of consumers use alternate electronic devices such as tablets, notebook PCs, smart phones, MP3 players and desktop computers to view TV/video content. Tablet usage in UK and Germany has grown amost four folds with a higher number of people viewing video content on portable computing devices such as tablets and notebook PCs. In China, Indonesia, Russia and Turkey, consumers reported that they view content on mobile devices such as smart phones, likely due to the relatively high penetration of wireless networks.
The study also showed that, despite this increase in usage of tablets and smart devices, TV is still the primary choice for viewing TV content.
